Ready to go!

Late Saturday night / Early Sunday morning ... a few hours to go.

It's hard to believe, but the packing is finally finished (I just have to post this and stuff the laptop into my bags and it's done, done, done). For a little while there I wasn't sure it would all fit together. Packing for a motorcycle trip is like fitting rigid little pieces of a puzzle together that were not manufactured as such. The clothes are the easy part, it's all the other things, the camera, the can of shaving cream, the books, things that don't bend with things that can easily break ... and it all has to be bagged in a way as to withstand rain, heat, and vibration, not to mention the limited amount of space. Yet it is worth re-packing each bag again and again, to get it right, to get it all together, and finally to roll out of here and make this trip a reality.

It's strange, waiting to go ... I want to roll out now. If it weren't for sleep, I'd get a lot more done. But a good 7 hrs of sleep, then breakfast and I'll be ready to hit the road. I hope to make Wheeling, WV or thereabouts by nightfall to complete the first day. That should put me within easy reach of Indianapolis for Monday.

I plan to roll out of here at about 10 am, if all goes well strapping the gear to the bike. Hopefully the weight won't tip the front wheel up too much :-).

Next posting will be from the road. Here we go ... here we go ... here we go!
